Earl M. James COPE - Earl M. James, 71, of Cope, passed away unexpectedly December 27, 2013. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2013, at Ghents Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Bert Petty officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was held on Sunday, December 29, 2013, from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home in Denmark. Pallbearers were Harry Hiott, Danny Matheny, Mac Moore, Chris Allen, Phil Haftagiou, Mike Mansell, Caleb Hartzog, Earl Jeffcoat and Marvin Zeigler. Honorary pallbearers were the Encouragers Sunday School class. Earl was the son of the late Edna Medlin and Carl James. He was born in Bamberg, March 28, 1942. He was a 1960 graduate of Bamberg High School. He was in the Army and served in Germany for three years. He was the owner of James Heating and Air Conditioner ("The James Gang") in Denmark. He owned and operated the business for 41 years. He was a member of Main Street Methodist Church in Bamberg. Heaven gained a dancing angel with a laughter that would shake the room and have others join. He loved spending time with his family - especially his girls and seven grandchildren. He leaves behind his best friend and loving wife of 39 years, Eleanor; three daughters, Sharon (Danny) Bickley, Melissa (Joe) Rigsby, Candace (John) Burnside; five granddaughters, Maddison and Sullivan Rigsby, Sydney Bickley, Ella and Presley Burnside; two grandsons, Gatlin Bickley and Cohen Rigsby; his special brother-in-law, Doug (Brenda) Hightower; one sister, Elsie (Ronnie) Perdue.
