Jan Curtis Obituary

Jan M. Curtis LEXINGTON Jan M. Curtis, 55, of Lexington, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015. Born in Ridgeland, SC, she was a daughter of the late Lonnie Brooks Munch and Beauton Maxine Parson Munch. Jan graduated from Columbia College and received a Master's in Autism from the University of South Carolina. Jan was a special education teacher with Lexington School District 1. She loved teaching and volunteering with Special Olympics. She never saw a child as special needs, she just saw a child. Survivors include her husband, Bob Curtis; her son, Eric (Amanda) Curtis of Batesburg; her daughter, Sarah (Justin) Curtis Wolford of West Columbia; granddaughters, Kendall Marie and Olivia Rose Wolford; and her brother, Lonnie Brooks Munch, II of Bluffton. In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her sister, Rhonda Langford of Savannah. The Memorial Mass for Mrs. Curtis will be celebrated at 11:30 o'clock, Saturday, March 7th, at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, 120 Marydale Lane, Columbia, with The Rev. Fr. David R. Whitman officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:30 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to S.C. Autism Society, 806 12th St., West Columbia, SC 29169. Memories and condolences may be shared at ShivesFuneralHome.com.

I am so sorry for your loss. Jan was a genuinely sweet person and loved the children she taught and they LOVED her. I enjoyed getting to know her the last few years ans she let my student job train in her class. We got to know each other on FB. I will miss her greatly and will be praying for comfort for your family.
