Katie Clayton BETHUNE - A funeral service to celebrate the life of Katie Wilkins Clayton, 92, of Bethune, SC, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Bethune Baptist Church in Bethune. Chaplin Brian Ogburn and Jackie Knight will officiate. Burial will follow in Scotch Cemetery in Bethune. The family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made in her memory to Bethune Baptist Church, 304 Blackmon Street, Bethune, SC 29009. . Mrs. Katie Clayton died December 11, 2013, in the Karesh Wing of KershawHealth in Camden, SC. She was married over 50 years to the late M.B. Clayton, Jr. Mrs. Clayton was born December 18, 1920, in Lumberton, NC, the daughter of the late Letha M. Wilkins. She was a graduate of Smith High School in Lumberton and Commerce Business College in Charlotte, NC. Mrs. Clayton retired as the first secretary of Bethune High School after 20 years of service. She was a faithful member of Bethune Baptist Church, serving in various capacities including the hostess committee, WMU, Trailblazers Sunday School Class, and helped plan many trips for the senior Joy group. She was an active member of the Bethune Woman's Club and worked many years at the Bethune voting polls. Mrs. Clayton enjoyed working in her garden, sewing, and had a great love of her pets through the years. She was an awesome daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Clayton had a generous and loving heart and made lifelong friends wherever she and her husband lived. Mrs. Clayton is survived by her daughter, Eleanor C. Hall (Buck) of Camden, SC; sons, Michael Clayton (Dobbie) of Seneca, SC, and Mark Clayton (Cynthia) of Nashville, NC; grandsons, Todd Clayton (Sveta), Trent Clayton, Scott Hall (Myra), Marcus Clayton (Jennedy); great-granddaughter, Miranda Hall; great-grandsons, Nathan and Chason; sister-in-law, Elizabeth C. Wright; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends who will miss her. Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
