Roy Hughes CHAPIN - Mr. Roy Hughes of Chapin, passed away May 15, 2014, from complications of bladder cancer and kidney failure. Born August 24, 1933, in Orangeburg County, he was a son of the late Johnny L. and Margaret Judy Hughes. He attended Denmark High School and retired as a homebuilder in South Carolina and Florida. Mr. Hughes was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Betty Jean M. Hughes. He was also predeceased by his brother, Lee Alton Hughes, and three sisters, Margie Thomas, Marie Thomas, and Idell Davis. Those left to cherish his memories are his companion, Frances Sullivan of Chapin; two brothers, Raymond Hughes of Summerville, and John (Peggy) Hughes of Orangeburg, and three children, Debra H. (Philip) Morris of Chapin, Brenda H. Rozier of Cordova, and Michael (Pattie) Hughes of Venice, Florida. Mr. Hughes is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Jennifer (Butch) Weber of Mt. Pleasant, Allan Morris of Montana, Amanda (Henry) Gallivan of Greenville, Joshua Morris of Montana, Cindi (Wayne) Williams of Orangeburg, Heather Rozier of Cordova, Jayme (Deirdre) Rozier of Georgia, Zak Rozier of Cordova, Katie Hughes of Florida, and Tim (Becca) Hughes of Florida, and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a very special niece, Kat (Joe) Yearry of Denmark. Visitation for the family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 17th, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home in Denmark, SC. Funeral service will be held at Ghents Branch Baptist Church on Sunday May 18th, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
