Samuel Baker Obituary

DENMARK — Samuel Broughton Baker, Jr., 58, devoted husband of Miriam Eleazer “Mimbee” Baker, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2009, at 2:12 p.m. at his home in Denmark, SC. He was born September 9, 1950, in Savannah, GA, the son of the late Samuel Broughton Baker and the late Margaret Camp Baker of Estill.
 
Broughton was the loving father of three children, Kemper Moody (Clay) of Fort Meade, MD, Julie Toirkens (Alex) of Bluffton and Samuel Broughton “Bee” Baker, III, (Carlisle) of Bluffton; a loyal brother to Peggy Lawton (Wesley) of Greenville and David Baker (Martha) of Manning; and a super “Poppy” of five grandchildren, Belton, William, and Jeffrey Moody, John Baker and Emarie Toirkens.
 
Broughton was a graduate of Clemson University and the MUSC Dental School, a United States Army veteran, a compassionate dentist. He was a member of Bethel Park United Methodist Church in Denmark and was loved and respected by his family, friends, patients, colleagues and the community .
 
A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, August 30, at Bethel Park United Methodist Church, 25 Beech Avenue, Denmark, SC, with the Rev. Judy Hames officiating. Family visitation will follow the service in the social hall.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Park United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 207, Denmark, SC 29042 or the American Cancer Society, 1-800-ACS-2345.

Mimbee, I was so shocked and sadden to see Broughton's obiturary in our Florence paper. My heart goes out to you and your children. I know all too well how hard it is to lose your Dad at an early age. May God's love help you through this difficult time. All my Estill friends are very dear to me and I feel your loss.
