Virginia Wetherell Obituary

Virginia Carol Wetherell IRMO - Virginia Carol Wetherell, 57, of Irmo lost her brave battle with cancer on August 4, 2013. The daughter of Martin E. Wetherell and the late Cora Drake Wetherell, she grew up in Bennettsville, SC, and attended the SC School for the Deaf and Blind. She is survived by her two sisters Elizabeth Herring (Bob) and Jennifer Bundrick (Dwight), nephew Matthew Bundrick (Meghan), and nieces Brittany Bundrick, Michelle Kammer (Brandon), and Laura Herring. Virginia enjoyed life and was blessed with great friends. A service celebrating her life will be held Sunday, August 25, 3PM, at Grace United Methodist Church (Harbison). The family thanks Dr. James Williams and the staff at South Carolina Oncology Associates. From the time Virginia was welcomed at the reception desk until she left the infusion area with a handful of chocolate, they made each visit special. The family also thanks Southern Care Hospice whose support enabled her sisters to care for her at home. Memorials may be made to SCOA Cares Foundation, PO Box 2046, West Columbia, SC 29171 (www.scoacares.org/), or Grace United Methodist Church, 410 Harbison Boulevard, Columbia,SC, 29210(www.gracecolumbia.org/)for its outreach programs so members can touch others as they did Virginia. www.barr-price.com 803 356-4411

Such a kind spirit, she also kept me informed of the weather , seemed like it was always sunny where she was. I remember going skiing with her and she would just do her own thing and enjoy herself. She would watch me skateboard always giving me an audience, fearful of me hurting myself. Rest in peace... My thoughts go out to the Wetherell family, wonderful people!

Mr. Martin, Elizabeth and Jennifer it is with fond and precious memories of Virginia at Camp Pee Dee that come to mind when I think of all of you. She was such an inspiration to so many campers including Helen and Sharon. She was so special and taught all of us so much. She will truly be missed, but know Mrs. Cora and God welcomed her with open arms. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

Love,
Bruce & Virginia

Virginia would always message me on Facebook just to say Hi or to let me know what she was doing that day. I go way back to the days in Bennettsville with her family and I know how much they all treasured her, especially Jennifer! What a welcome she must have gotten in heaven when Mrs. Cora saw her coming! Rest sweetly Virginia and thanks for always being a "FB friend". Prayers and love to the family

yes, I remember Virginia and she was my classmate and roommate. She was very lonely and friendly. I enjoyed spending a lot of time with her and fun times with her. She has a very pretty smile and very good personality. God be with her family during sorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.

Virginia was a woman who faced life and her illness with brave bravado. In spite of being deaf, she was able to communicate and participate in many social events thru her facial expressions, her note pad, the pages of facebook, and her interpreters (especially Courtney Shuttleworth - with whom she shared a special and loving relationship). Thank you Virginia for taking time to teach us all lessons of gratitude, patience, and tolerance. We will miss you dearly.
