Wilbur Luther Harling Jr. COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Wilbur Luther Harling, Jr., 70, will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the funeral home. Mr. Harling died Monday, March 24, 2014. Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Wilbur Luther Harling, Sr. and Virginia Brown Harling. Mr. Harling graduated from Furman College in 1964, the University of South Carolina School of Pharmacy in 1969, and later attended the USC School of Law. In 1974, Mr. Harling began his career with the S.C. Bureau of Drug Control and retired as director of the Bureau at the end of his career. Mr. Harling received the Pharmacist of the Year Award in 2009. He enjoyed playing the guitar in a band during high school and college, and he was a high school football standout at Carolina High School. Mr. Harling was a member of the Jamil Temple and Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Surviving are his daughter, Beth Harling Clarke and her husband, Tim Clarke, of Columbia, and granddaughter, Abby Elizabeth Wood, sister, Lynn Warren of Virginia, and brother, Sam Gilreath of Florida. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Amy Harling; brother, Charles Gilreath.
