Virgin E. Shell Jr. COLUMBIA - The Homegoing service for Virgin Emanuel Shell, Jr. will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Zion Canaan Baptist Church (7820 Farrow Road, Columbia) with burial in Memorial Gardens of Columbia. Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home (2930 Colonial Drive) has been entrusted with the arrangements. Mr. Shell was born in Columbia, SC, to the late Emanuel and Annie Mae Shell, the second oldest of twelve children. He passed away May 19, 2014. He was 75. He was educated in Richland County public schools, graduating from Bethel High School. For 30 years, he was employed as a nurse's aide at South Carolina Department of Mental Health. He was also employed at Richland County School District Two for nineteen years as a custodian. He was married for fifty-three years to his beautiful bride, Sadie Edger Shell. He was a member of Zion Canaan Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Sadie; a son, Virgil (Gloria) Thomas Shell; three daughters: Ernestine (John) Johnson, Bernestine Jones and Kimberly Anderson; five grandchildren: Virgil Shell, Vance Shell, Iris Johnson, Nicole Johnson and Amber Bolar; three brothers: Freddie Shell, Rev. Dr. Willie James (Emma) Shell and Deacon Rufus (Barbara) Shell; six sisters: Ola (Frank) Barnett, Euretha (Tim) Coleman, Mary Henry, Maude Egister, Addie (Ronald) Branch and Gloria Diane Shell; and many other loving relatives.
