Rachel Timrod Schiffley Sloan COLUMBIA - Rachel Timrod Schiffley Sloan, 74, died Monday, July 21, 2014. She was known as "Timmie" by her friends and family. Born in Orangeburg, she was a daughter of the late Henry Timrod Schiffley, M.D. and Rachel Fanning Schiffley. She lived her childhood and adult life as a resident of Columbia. She had a strong and abiding Christian faith and was a member of St. Barnabas Orthodox Church, Lexington. She was the church's music director for many years until her death and held several other church offices. She had a great love for the game of tennis, serving as boys' and girls' tennis coach at Cardinal Newman High School for several years. In addition, she played tennis regularly until her recent illness. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, R. Stedman Sloan Jr.; sons, Paul K. Sloan, Timothy S. Sloan, Michael J. Sloan; and four grandchildren, Rebeka, Emma, Michael and Sarah. Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2014, at St. Barnabas Orthodox Church, with burial at 2:00 p.m. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
