Howard J. Gunderson, Jr. ROCK HILL Mr. Howard J. Gunderson, Jr., 90, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House. The funeral service will be 1pm on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel with Rev. Mary Katherine Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park on Hollis Lakes Rd. Mr. Gunderson grew up on a dairy farm in Northern Wisconsin a son of the late Howard J. Gunderson, Sr. and the late Lulu Henrietta Missell Gunderson. He was the starting catcher in baseball for Independence Wisconsin High School and graduated valedictorian of his class. He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving in the 3rd Air Force and ATSP Lamp of Knowledge, Georgetown University. He was a 1949 chemistry graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and then moved to Rock Hill in 1950. He was retired from Wyeth Lab, American Home Products as a Pharmaceutical Rep and was an avid model "A" Ford car restorer. Preceding him in death was his wife of 63 years, Ann Everett Faucett Gunderson and his sister, Beverly Gunderson. He loved and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are his sons, Jerry Gunderson and his wife, Sue, Tommy Gunderson and his wife, Susan and Dick Gunderson and his wife, Katie; his sisters, Lois Jones of Homestead, FL, Ardis Isaacson and her husband, Merlin and Annette Husom and her husband, Jim of Eau Claire, WI; his grandchildren, Kyle Gunderson, Ashley G. Wise, Watson, Kirsten, Leif, Richie, Jamie and Danielle Gunderson, Whitney Huffstetler and Kayce H. Graupner; and his great grandchildren, Caroline, Jackson and Jacob Wise, Taylor Grimes, Kylie, Elijah, Aiden, Andrea, Easton and Zoe Gunderson. The family sends a special thanks to the staff of Emeritus Spring Arbor, the staff of the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice house and to Mae "Corky" Cauthen for the care given to Mr. Gunderson. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30pm on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill and other times at the home.
