Iris Denise Smith Armstrong FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Services for Sgt. Iris Denise Smith Armstrong will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2016, at First Northeast Baptist Church, with committal to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The public may pay their respects today from 1-8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m., at Palmer Memorial Chapel. Sgt. Armstrong departed this earthly life Friday, July 1, 2016, at her home in Fort Bragg, NC. She was the oldest of five children born to Gerald Smith and Crystal Reeves Smith in Columbia, SC. Sgt. Armstrong graduated from Richland North East High School, Class of 2010, earned a bachelor's degree in liberal arts from Excelsior College and had recently been promoted to sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division, U.S. Army, Fort Bragg, NC. Surviving are her sons, Jason (5) and Ivan (1 1/2 ); her parents, Gerald and Crystal Reeves Smith of Columbia; a sister, Emerald N. Smith; and three brothers, Julius G. Smith, Aron Smith and Terrence Smith, all of Columbia; and a host of other relatives and friends.
