Miriam E. Walker BATESBURG Miriam E. Walker 81, was born May 8, 1931 in Lexington County, South Carolina. She was one of the two children born to the late Rufus and Eddie Lue Humphrey. She departed this life on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Lexington Medical Center. Miriam was the loving and faithful wife to the late Etheridge Walker for sixty-four years. Their union was blessed with ten children, and they were proud parents to two additional sons, Rodrick and Tomothy Edmond. They had loving and caring hands in raising multiple grandchildren. Three children, Rufus Elliott, Margaret Ann and Betty Jean, preceded her in death. Miriam accepted and embraced Jesus Christ as her personal savior early in life. She was a faithful and dedicated working member of Olive Branch Baptist Church, where she served on multiple ministries. She was as a Sunday School Teacher, member of the Pastor's Aide Ministry, the Missionary Ministry, the Senior Choir and was a Deaconess for many years. She retired the position of Church Sexton after so many years. She was a long time employee of and later retired from J.B. Martin, Batesburg-Leesville, SC. She leaves to cherish her memory: nine children Ethridge (Annette) Walker of Germany; Ruth Annette Gay of Florida; Johnny (Cheryl) Walker of North Carolina; Mary Lue (Timothy) Marshall of Lexington, SC; Geraldene Jackson of Batesburg-Leesville; Rev. Robert (Patricia) Walker of California; Debra (James) Wise of Lexington, SC; Deacon Rodrick (Sandra) Edmond and the Honorable Judge Tomothy (Carroll) Edmond, both of Columbia, SC; three sisters Mazie Davis and Lela Bland Marshall, both of New Jersey and Anna Belle Padgett of Batesburg-Leesville; twenty-five grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
