James Marion Burrows III COLUMBIA - A Mass of Christian Burial for James "Jim" Marion Burrows III, 55, will be celebrated10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Jim passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 22, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, he was a son of James Marion Burrows Jr. and Irene Dubian Burrows. Jim spent most of his childhood in Europe before moving to South Carolina. He was a 1976 graduate of Lower Richland High School. He continued his education at Midlands Technical College with an Associates Degree in Science. Jim served in the US Navy for four years and continued to serve in the US Naval Reserves for 20 more years. While in the Navy, he served on the USS Forrestal CU59 and Cargo Handling Battalion 4. During his life he enjoyed traveling with the Navy, for work, and with family. Jim enjoyed golf, soccer, and a good time with family and friends. Our well known "Mr. Fix It" was always there to help with his willing hands and his kind heart. Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Sonja Goodwin Burrows; daughters, Daniela Burrows Cuddington (Stephen) of Columbia and Margaret-Ann Burrows of Columbia; his parents of Columbia; brother, Richard Burrows of Hopkins; mother-in-law, Selma Goodwin of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Debra Brooks of West Columbia and Cynthia Ann Gollach (Terry) of Elgin; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandmother, Betty "Oma" Mang and infant daughter, Michelle Francis Burrows. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to his work family at Pure Power Technologies, Ralph H Johnson VA- ALS Clinic, Carolinas Medical Center-Neurology, Hartvigsen Family Medicine, ALSA-South Carolina Chapter, and all those who knew Jim.
