Mr. Bobby Sumwalt was a very respected leader in the construction industry, having served as President of Carolinas AGC's Board of Directors, founder of Sumwalt Constructon Co., a community leader and athletic booster, student body president and a cum laude civil engineering graduate of the University of South Carolina, to name a few of his many accomplishments. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Sumwalt's family and many friends.

I have had the pleasure of knowing all three of the R.L. Sumwalts. R.L was my dean while an engineering student at USC and he later hired me to the faculty.
Shortly after joining the faculty I formed a relationship with Bobby which I enjoyed for well over 50 years. His love of all things USC and especially USC engineering was unsurpassed. He served in many capacities to the College including various Deans Advisory Groups. Always there, always interested and always supportive. A most uncommon engineering Gamecock.

I had the pleasure of working for Mr. Sumwalt until he retired and sold the business. He was one of the finest people I ever met. If he ever met you he never forgot your name. I was always amazed by this.

Bobby and Joyce Sumwalt along with Mac and Sarah McCrory were some of the first individuals I met when I first moved to Columbia in 1975. I always enjoyed seeing his smile and hearing his laugh. He and Joyce were wonderful individuals and I think I am blessed to have known them.
