Barbara VanDoren Obituary
BETHALTO — Barbara 'Babs' VanDoren, 82, passed away at 12:35 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at her residence.
Born in Moro on Feb. 22, 1932, she was the daughter of Leslie Earl Sr. and Laura (Ernhardt) Sawyer.
She had worked in the Special Education Department for Roxana School District over 20 years before retiring.
On August 23, 1952, in Wood River, she married Franklin VanDoren. He died Oct. 9, 2011.
Surviving are three sons, Dan VanDoren of Batchtown, Tim VanDoren (companion, Pam Camerer) of Portage, Ind., Bob VanDoren (companion, Laura Lively) of Arnold, Mo.; two daughters, Lea (Richard) Bergschneider of Franklin, Ill., Elise 'Tish' (Sean) Emerick of Bethalto; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Peggy Balsters of Glen Carbon.
Preceding in death were her parents; husband; son, David Joel VanDoren; grandson, Timothy Glenn VanDoren; daughter-in-law, Barbara VanDoren; three brothers, Leslie Jr., John and George Sawyer; and a sister, Molly Scroggins.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Rev. Steve Disney will officiate.
Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Dear Van Doren family, we are so saddened to hear of the loss of our good friend, Babs. We have great memories of our days together at SIUE, Roxana, Camp Roxy, hiking and camping. She was a wonderful person. Please accept our deepest sympathy. May God bless all of you.
