ALTON — Kenneth Grabner, 80, passed away at 2 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton with his family by his side.
He was born on Dec. 19, 1933, in Wilsonville, Ill., the son of the late Walter and Margaret (Baggio) Grabner.
Kenneth married Janet M. Simon on Oct. 29, 1955, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 19, 2013.
Kenneth was an Alton High School graduate of 1951. He was the owner and operator of "Jack's" Grabner's Restaurant and Tavern for 65 years in Upper Alton, retiring in 1996. He served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, the Alton Knights of Columbus # 460, Alton American Legion Post # 126 and the Alton Eagles FOE # 254. He enjoyed golfing on a senior league two times a week, reading, checking out books from the local library and spending time with his family and friends.
Kenneth is survived by six children and their spouses: Mary and Tom Bunce of Alton, Kenneth Jr. and Pat Grabner of Alton, Brian and Kathy Grabner of Wood River, Walter and Debbie Grabner of Alton, Jeff and Christine Grabner of Alton and David and Stephanie Grabner of Alton; ten grandchildren, Beth, Matthew, Taylor, Hayden, and Nick Grabner, Christina Reed, Megan Bunce, Wayne, Jimmy and Chris Price, one great-grandson, Carter Reed, and one brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Donna Grabner of Alton.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday, June 20, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. Father John Luong, O.M.V. will officiate.
Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey, with military rites by the Alton VFW Post 1308.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church and or the Alton Knights of Columbus.
