GLEN CARBON — Earl W. Tucker, 96, formerly of Granite City, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family in Glen Carbon.
Earl was born on July 19, 1920, in Murphysboro, Illinois; a son to the late John B. and Winnie (Lindsay) Tucker. Earl was raised in Granite City and married the love of his life, Marcella Boyer, on Sept. 5, 1941. Earl then enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and then transferred to the United States Army Air Corps, where he served in WW II as a pilot instructor until 1945. Earl was a member of the Granite City Masonic Lodge #877 (Rolling Nobles), a member of the Granite City Rotary Club, the Granite City Moose Lodge and Toast Masters, providing services for Make A Wish Foundation. Earl served as a Granite City precinct committeeman and drove a truck for Lybargers Materials then went on to become a deputy assessor for Madison County. His life's work was with his wife, Marcella, working side by side as cosmetologists. They owned their own salon until opening the Granite City School of Beauty Culture in 1966, and during that time he served as president of the local hairdressers association. Earl was a life time and faithful member of Second Baptist Church in Granite, and will be remembered for all the special times he shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by and will be missed by his children: John E. Tucker of Granite City, Sheila and (Jimmie) Stockton of Granite City, Paula and (Lewis) Roberts of Glen Carbon; daughter-in-law, Theresa and (Norman) Werner of Granite City; his grandchildren, John E, and (Dina) Tucker, S. Renee and (Steve) Horvath, Katherine and (Keith) Hustedde, Lewis and (Meghann) Roberts, Andrea and (Garrett) Kempf, Jamie Tucker and (Ryan Mowery), Michelle and (Jason) Yates, Tyler Stockton; his great-grandchildren, Marcella Horvath, Akira Horvath, Amber Miller, Allison Yates, Cameron Stockton, Karee Hustedde, Owen Roberts, Ava Roberts, Levi Roberts, Calvin Roberts, John E. and (Jamie) Tucker III, Brittany and (Michael) Ward, Allissa Tucker, Jacob Tucker, Eric Stratton; his great-great-grandchildren, Drayden Love, Eli Tucker, Keyaira Tucker.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella; his son, Eric Tucker; his great-great-grandson, John E. Tucker IV; his sisters, Mary Kinder, Leola Kaseberg, Rosa Ballard, Norma Cox.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of Earl's life, services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Burial will follow with full military rites at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials are suggested to Heartland Hospice.
