BETTY GAY
STAUNTON — Betty Jean Gay, 85, of Staunton, died at 1:57 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon.She was born on March 26, 1928, in Staunton, daughter of the late John and Olive Marland Kotzman.
She married James J. Gay on May 16, 1948, in Staunton. Her husband died 22 hours after she did on the same day at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Staunton, Order of the Eastern Star, and volunteer at Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton for many years.
Survivors include three sons, James (Marsha) Gai of Warrensburg, Mo., Jack (Terry) Gai of Glen Carbon, Robert Gay of Lombard, Ill.; a daughter, Jane (Rick) Haase of Staunton; 10 grandchildren, Angela (Kris) Gilbert, Jimmy (Jessica) Gai, Kari (Matthew) Rich, Melissa (Phil) Manaois, Andy Gai, Laura Gay, Lisa Gay, Sara Gay, Olivia (Trae) Turner and Cecily Haase; five great-grandchildren, Mason, Kamryn, Sofia, Tony, Megan.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, John Kotzman.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton.
