WOOD RIVER - Richard L. 'Dick' Hirsch, 95, passed away 6:10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 28, 1918, in St. Marys, Ohio, he was the son of Frank B. and Mabel (Boyles) Hirsch.

A World War II Army veteran, he had been employed as the manager of yield accounts for Clark Oil Refinery in Hartford for 40 years before retiring.

On Oct. 10, 1941, in Worden, he married the former Betty Schneider. She died June 16, 2006.

Surviving are a son, Richard L., Jr. (Karen) Hirsch of Boalsburg, Pa; two grandchildren, Kristen J. Hirsch of Washington, D.C., Brett J. (Natalie) Hirsch of Baldwin, Md.; two great-grandchildren, Jocelyn M. and Samuel J. Hirsch; nephew, Steven M. Grames and his wife, Allyson of Bethany Beach, Del.; niece, Kathy l. Opel of Wood River; and brother-in-law, Donald L. Opel of Wood River.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; and a sister, Margaret Grames.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River. Pastor Martin Schultz will officiate. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he had been a member.
