Gloria L. Meyer, 61, died at 10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at her home in Bethalto.
Born Sept. 12, 1952, in Alton, she was the daughter of John and Thelma (Richards) Ray Sr. of East Alton.
Gloria worked as a medical assistant for Dr. Donna Boone. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton where she was active in Sunday school and the choir. She was a dedicated foster mother for many years.
On Aug. 11, 1973, she married Matt Meyer Jr. in Alton. He survives.
Also surviving are seven children, Joyce Meyer of Highland, Janice Ervin (Russell) of Austin, Texas, Mark Meyer (Brenda) of Godfrey, Aaron Meyer (Lauren) of Troy, Mo., Amy McCaslin (Kyle) of Bethalto, Drew Meyer of Bethalto and Cheyenne Meyer of Bethalto; four grandchildren, Andrew Richards (Jenna) of East Alton, Matthew Olguin, currently serving with the U.S. Navy, Claire Meyer of Troy, Mo., and Ethan Meyer of Troy, Mo.; one brother, John "Ed" Ray Jr. of Alton.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. Private burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Reverend Andre' Dobson will officiate.
