Albert G. Jones, 83, of South Scranton, died Saturday in VNA Hospice at Geisinger Community Medical Center from complications related to a fall. His wife of 58 years is the former Ann Farrell.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Griffith and Elizabeth Purdy Jones. He was a member of St. John Neumann Parish. He was a graduate of West Scranton High School and attended Wharton School of Business. He was an Army
veteran of the Korean War
and a member of VFW
Post 3451 and American Legion Post 121. He was employed by Dean Phipps Inc. and retired as deputy business administrator for the city of Scranton.
Also surviving are a son, Robert Albert Jones, Powhatan, Va.; three daughters, Mary Kay Jones, Scranton; Ellen Therese Dente and husband, Joseph Jr., Moosic; and Susan Chielewski, Richmond, Va.; a brother, Alfred Jones and wife, Phyllis, Leesburg, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, Joseph Dente lll and wife, Lisa; Michael Jones, Robert Eibach Jr., Maria Posluszny and husband, Jason; Kenneth Dente and wife, Stephanie; Jena Dente, Kristyn Mednik and husband, Leo; Jaclyn and Matthew Chmielewski; Angela Dente, Brian Jones and Erika Jones; great-grandchildren, Jason, Joseph, Connor, Emma and Michael; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Alvin, Ira and Stanley Jones, and Robert Richardson; and a sister, Dorothy Casey.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. from the August J. Haas Funeral Home Inc., 202 Pittston Ave., Scranton, with Mass at noon in Nativity of Our Lord Church, 633 Orchard St., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Michael Bryant, pastor. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Military services will be provided by AMVETS.
