Alberta M. Rochfort

Alberta M. Rochfort, 93, a lifelong resident of the Sterling area, was called home by her Lord and Savior on February 19. She was the wife of the late Dr. Robert F. Rochfort.

Born in Madisonville, she was the daughter of the late Thomas W. and Gertrude E. (Edwards) McLain. Alberta graduated from Moscow High School. She was a member of Sterling United Methodist Church, where she served as membership chairwoman, chairwoman of the Administrative Board and chairwoman of the Dinner Committee. Alberta worked as a cook at the Sterling Inn and as a china decorator at Holley Ross Pottery for more than 30 years. As an American Legion Auxiliary member, she served as president of Phillips-Zacharias-Phillips Post 859 in Newfoundland numerous times and held all other offices of the post. Alberta also served as president of Wayne-Pike Council many times; served as the State Americanism chairwoman & Pan American chairwoman. Alberta was also a Cub Scout den mother, a 4-H leader and helped with Girl Scouts. Some of the hobbies that she enjoyed included ceramics, knitting and crocheting, as well as cooking and baking. She was well- known for her cinnamon buns!

Alberta is survived by her son, Dr. Robert T. Rochfort and his wife, Gloria, of Miami, Fla.; a daughter, Yvonne R. Barnes and her husband, Donald, of Longs, S.C.; granddaughter, Lisette Pringle of Little River, S.C.; grandson, Douglas R. Barnes of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Hazel Skelton and Lorraine Gromlich, both of Madison Twp.; numerous loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Carl, Richard, Everett, Kenneth, Horace and Fred; and her sister, Mildred.

The funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Patricia Lee on Wednesday, February 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 3 First St. in Spring Brook Twp. There will be a viewing from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. An additional viewing will be held on Thursday, February 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst.
