Albina Homitz, 87, a lifelong resident of Dickson City, died Monday at Green Ridge Health Care Center, where she was a resident for the past five years. Her husband, Anthony S. Homitz, died tragically on Feb. 12, 1992, as a result of a house fire.
Born in Dickson City, she was the daughter of the late Marion and MaryAnn Chrzanowski Kalinowsk. She was a member of St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City, and a former member of its Christian Mothers Society. She was a 40-year member of the Zonta Club; the Dickson City Senior Citizens Group and the Diocesan Chapter of the Enthronement Guild of the Sacred Heart at Marywoood. She was educated in Dickson City schools and, before retirement, she was employed by Grove Textiles, Dunmore. She also worked in the local garment industry.
Albina was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who, in her younger years, loved crafting and baking. Her greatest joy was cooking for her family and having everyone together during the holidays. She will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.
Surviving are two sons, Anthony J. Homitz and wife, MaryAnn, Dickson City; and Stanley Homitz, Archbald; a daughter, Donna Homitz Seyedian and husband, Moj, Dunkirk, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Anthony M. Homitz, Dunmore; Brian Homitz, Scranton; Sara Seyedian, Rochester, N.Y.; Aaron Seyedian, Washington, D.C.; and Rachel Homitz, Archbald; one great-grandson, Brandon Homitz, Scranton; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Sunday, Dickson City; and Eleanor Gianzanti, Dunmore; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Debra Homitz; four brothers, John, Anthony "Monty," Theodore and Telesfore Kalinowski; and three sisters, Stasia Kozlowski, Jean Varcella and Sophie Kozlowski.
The funeral will be Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, with Mass at 9:30 in St. Mary's Visitation Church. Interment, St. Joseph's Cemetery, Scott Twp.
