Alfred Howells

Alfred Howells, 85, North Scranton, died Wednesday night at home. His wife was the former Lucille J. Balderi, who died Sept. 27, 1998.

Born in Scranton, son of the late George and Maryann James Howells, he attended Scranton schools and was an Army veteran, serving in Italy. He previously was employed at J.T. Plotkin and Sons Shoe Co. He was a member of VFW Post 5209, Scranton, and American Legion Post 568, Birney Avenue, Scranton.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother who's family came first. He will be deeply missed.

Surviving are one daughter, Linda Catalano, Scranton; one son, David Howells, Scranton; two granddaughters, Audra Del Prete and husband, Nicholas, Olyphant; and Heather Chorba and husband, Matthew, Throop; one grandson, Christopher Catalano, Scranton; one great-granddaughter, Estella Chorba; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Edward Knight O'Donnell Funeral Home, 323 William St. The Rev. Ginger Daubenhauser, pastor, Trinity Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

Friends may call Saturday from 9:30 until the time of service.
