Andrew E. Sluko

Andrew E. Sluko, 80, a resident of Jefferson Twp., died peacefully at home on Tuesday surrounded by family and friends. His wife of 51 years is the former Theresa Hresko.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Stanley and Anna Layno Sluko. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Scranton. He was a lifelong member of St. Michael the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church, Dunmore.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Dunmore, and past president of the Jefferson Twp. Lions Club.

Prior to retirement, he was employed as a salesman at James O. Brown, food broker for over 45 years.

He is survived by a daughter, Debrann, Olyphant; a son, Andrew G. and wife, Mariellen; five grandchildren, Nicole and Sarah Tanana, Tori, A.J. and Ali Sluko; a sister-in-law, Maria Kocak, in Slovakia; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

He lived for his family, especially his grandchildren, who were his world and was affectionately known as "Dzedo." He was an avid supporter of his grandchildren's activities. He was a frequent visitor to the casinos and at trying his luck on the lottery. He loved spending his summers at Moosic Lakes.

The funeral will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the Chipak Funeral Home, 623 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with a Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Michael the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church, 511 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, to be celebrated by the Rev. Robert Lozinski, pastor. Interment, parish cemetery, Dunmore.

Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Parastas service at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the .
