Andrew P. Conway

Andrew P. "Drew" Conway, 63, passed away peacefully Monday in the Gino J. Merli Northeast Veterans Center after a courageous battle with cancer. His wife is the former Esther Materazzi. The couple would have celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary on Nov. 15.

Born on Oct. 11, 1949, in Scranton, son of the late Joseph and Mary Crowley Conway, he was educated in Scranton public schools, the University of Scranton, Johnson Technical School and Lackawanna Junior College. An Army veteran, he served from 1969 to 1974 during the Vietnam era. Before starting his own business, he was previously employed at Mactac.

Drew enjoyed running, hiking and biking with his grandchildren and his buddy, Jimmy Lewis. He ran many marathons in which he won many honors. He was a member of the SOAR and the Sierra Club. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, San Francisco 49ers and Notre Dame.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, especially Cheryl, Lisa, Rob, Dawn, Steve, Andy, Ralph and Anna.

Surviving are a son, Jason Conway and wife, Melissa, Hughestown; a daughter, Jennifer Litchkowski and husband, Mike, Duryea; grandchildren, Zachary, Kayla and Nathan, whom he adored; sisters, Mary Ann Knott and husband, Jimmy, Scranton; Sharon Kurcin, Lebanon, N.J.; brothers, Paul Conway, California; and Michael Conway and wife, Linda, Georgia; aunts, Kay Walsh, Scranton; and Rose Conway, Maryland; uncles, Tommy Conway, Scranton; and Jimmy Conway, Maryland; nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Conway; aunts, uncles and his favorite canine companion, Lucky, whom he loved and adored.

The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann's St., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Basilica. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

Friends may call Wednesday, 4 to 7 p.m.
