Ann Elizabeth Healey Connolly

Ann Elizabeth Healey Connolly, of Newton Lake, Greenfield Twp., passed away peacefully at home Monday evening with her devoted husband and friend, Newell "Gus" Connolly of 56 years, at her side. She is now at peace with the Lord after a long struggle with her illness.

Born in Carbondale on July 14, 1933, daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth Wasman Healey, she was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, class of 1954. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. She received her RN in nursing from St Joseph's School of Nursing, Carbondale and worked for many years as the Night Shift Supervisor at the former St. Joseph's Hospital, then Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale. She also worked at St. Claire's Hospital in New York City for a time and always talked about her time there fondly.

Ann married Newell "Gus" Connolly on July 28, 1956, in St. Rose of Lima Church, and they were married for more than 56 years and lived in a home they built at Newton Lake.

She was a gentle woman of grace and dignity. She touched many lives outside her family with her care and concern during times of trial. She was a wonderful and devoted wife to Gus and a great Mom to her children. She loved St. Bernard dogs and was a talented quilter, spending Wednesdays quilting with a group of her friends in Forest City. Her kids fondly remember the lunches she would pack for them each day after working the night shift at the hospital.

The family would like to thank Dr. Sean McCall and Dr. Jessica Sabato, his assistant, for their care of our Mom and Wife.

We are also indebted to Lisa White, her nurse and caregiver who lovingly and tenderly helped us to keep Mom in the home she so loved. Lisa began as Mom's nurse, but became Mom's ally, confidante, friend and advocate and we know she will miss her as much as we all will.

Also surviving are five children, Tim and his wife, Cookie, Lewisburg, Pa.; Moira, Scranton, Pa.; Jeanne, Fayetteville, N.C.; Chris and his wife, Alexis, Ashburn, Va.; and Liz McCarty, Moyock, N.C..; two sisters, Gretta Healey O'Connor, Fairfax, Va.; and Rosemary Healey Stephens and husband, George, Newton Lake, Pa.; a brother, Frank Healey and wife, Peg, Archbald, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Healey; a sister, Jeanne Healey; and a son-in-law, Jay McCarty.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Mausoleum, Finch Hill. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
