Ann M. Nelson, 89, of Carbondale, died Friday afternoon at Forest City Nursing Home. She was the wife of Harry Nelson, who died March 6, 1996.
Born in Carbondale on April 21, 1924, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Thornton Mannion, she graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and St. Mary's School of Nursing, Scranton. Before retirement in 1987, she worked as a licensed practical nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital, Carbondale, and Farview State Hospital, Waymart. She was a member of the NEPA Nurses Association, St. Rose of Lima Church and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Carbondale.
She is survived by a son, James Hodgins, Carbondale; three stepchildren, Anne, Judy and Harry; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas Hodgins; and first husband, Walter Hodgins.
As per her request, she was cremated, and inurnment will take place in the spring at St. Rose Cemetery, Carbondale. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., Carbondale.
