Ann Marie Salva

Ann Marie Salva, 75, of Philadelphia and formerly of Ravenna, Ohio, died peacefully at her niece's home on Saturday, Feb. 25, after battling Parkinson's disease for many years.

Born and raised in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Mullisky Salva. She was a graduate of St. Rose High School, Carbondale and Marywood College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. In addition, she attended the University of Akron, where she earned a Master of Arts in education in supervision and certifications in guidance and counseling and elementary administration. She was a former sister in the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM), Scranton, from 1957 to 1971. Her name in religion was Sister Elizabeth Marie. She taught at St. Mary's School, Patton, Pa.; St. Clare School, Scranton; St. Ambrose School, Bridgeport, Conn.; and was principal at Holy Rosary School, Scranton.

In 1971, she moved to Ohio and was a teacher and guidance counselor in the Crestwood School District, Mantua, Ohio; a principal in St. Joseph Elementary School, Mantua; and an assistant principal at Central Catholic High School in Canton, Ohio. She was principal at John F. Kennedy High School, Warren, Ohio, before returning to Crestwood School District as the middle school principal. She spent 46 years in the field of education. She was a dedicated member of St. Joseph's Church, Mantua, Ohio, where she served as a lector and on various parish committees. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister and aunt. Her love and dedication to her family and friends were always foremost in her life. She was an avid reader and loved to watch old movies. She enjoyed socializing and traveling with friends.

Her family wishes to thank the staff at Holy Redeemer Hospice, Philadelphia, for their caring, compassion and support.

She is survived by her sister, Audrey Arthur and husband, Thomas, Mayfield; and brother, William and wife, Donna, Dalton. She is also survived by niece, Tara Lauletta and husband, Andrew, Philadelphia; niece, Rebecca Jugan and husband, Thomas, Mayfield; and nephew, William Salva and wife, Kelly, Johns Creek, Ga. In addition, she is survived by grandnieces and grandnephews, Alivia, Gianna and Siena Lauletta, Thomas and Luke Vinansky, Kaylee and Ashlee Austin, and Tyler Salva.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, with Mass of Christian at 11 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Friends may call Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m.
