Annabelle Sands, 84, of Tunkhannock, died Friday morning at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born Nov. 28, 1928, in Stillwater, daughter of the late Furman A. and Mary Edwards Lunger, she was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School. She married Gerald Sands on Dec. 31, 1948. Annabelle, along with her husband, founded AJ Taxi and she worked for the Shadowbrook Dairy Bar and Perkins Restaurant for more than 50 years, where she was well known for her cookies and desserts. For her most of her life, she was a babysitter for many families throughout the Tunkhannock area.
Annabelle enjoyed canning, jigsaw puzzles and loved her dogs.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan and husband, Bill Stephens; grandchildren, Jason Stephens, Jeremy and wife, Stephanie Stephens; Josh and wife, Julie Stephens; Sean and wife, Patricia Sands; and Eric and wife, Tracy Sands; brothers, Robert and wife, Jane Lunger; Leo and wife, Evelyn Lunger; and Furman and wife, Dolores Lunger; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Sands; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Annabelle was also preceded in death by sisters, Margaret "Peg" Roberts and Dorothy Heinrich; brothers, Vernon, James, Atwood and Donald Lunger; and son, Dennis Sands.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home, 123 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with the Rev. Peter F. Geschwindner of Tunkhannock United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment, Sunnyside Cemetery.
