Audrey F. Markowski, 76, a Scranton resident, died Thursday evening in Geisinger Community Medical Center after an illness. She was the widow of Albert Markowski, who died in 1995.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Robert Jr. and Helen Olechna Fritz, she was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish and a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Audrey received her associate degree from Lackawanna College and was employed for 50 years by Penn Security Bank. She was a member of the board of Pennsylvania Association for the Blind. She was the first female president of the Scranton Lions Club and also was a member of American Institute of Banking and the American Bankers Association. She was also proclaimed Northeast Woman of the Year.
Audrey was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was very kind and generous and possessed a giving heart.
The family would like to thank the staff of DaVita Dialysis at Allied Services for the extraordinary care given to Audrey.
Surviving are two daughters, Kimberly Hiller and husband, Scott, Scranton; and Katherine E. Markowski, with whom she resided; four grandchildren, Zachary, Jacob, Sam and Alex Hiller; a sister, Barbara Pikulski, Scranton; a brother, Robert Fritz and wife, Barbara, Mount Cobb; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the August J. Haas Funeral Home, 202 Pittston Ave., with Mass at 10 in Sacred Hearts of Jesus And Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Scott Sterowski, pastor. Interment, parish cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.
