Caroline M. Phillips

Caroline M. "Yaya" Phillips of Scranton died Saturday morning at home. She was the widow of David G. Phillips, who died April 2, 1994.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Stanley J. and Ann I. Straneva Chmielewski, she was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Church and educated in SS. Peter & Paul School.

Yaya was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed.

Surviving are three daughters, Debbie Whitman and husband, Bill, Clarks Summit; Lisa M. Phillips and husband, John King; and Brenda Davenport and husband, Daryl, all of Scranton; one son, David Phillips and wife, Julie, Lennoxville; one brother, Stanley Chmielewski, Florida; one sister, Joann Lear, New York; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Leon Chmielewski.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann's St., with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in SS. Peter & Paul Church, Locust St. Interment, SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Taylor.

Friends may call Monday, 5 to 8 p.m.
