Catherine Ruth Chamoni

Catherine Ruth Chamoni, 91, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died early Sunday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was widow of Ferdinand W. Chamoni, who died April 12, 1980.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Clyde Naylor and Henrietta Chase Wirth, she was a member of Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Scranton Central High School, class of 1939, where she was class secretary, and a graduate of Powell School of Business, class of 1940. She was a member of Scranton Central Alumni Association, the Century Club of Scranton, the Lackawanna Historical Society, Friends of the Scranton Public Library, the Everhart Anthracite Heritage Museums and AARP. She was an officer, Sigma Alpha Nu Society, vice president, treasurer and chairwoman of the finance committee, she received the Penmanship award, was a DAR bronze medal winner and the American Legion Award winner. Before starting her family, she was employed by International Correspondence Schools.

Surviving are her children, Nancy L. Kaplan and husband, Harold, Naples, Fla.; Robert P. Chamoni, Scranton; Catherine R. Chamoni, Scranton; and Barbara L. Busby and husband, Patrick, Flanders, N.J.; two grandchildren, Michael I. Kaplan, New York City; and Emily K. Busby, Flanders, N.J.; a brother, Warren B. "Doc" Chase, Scranton; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Chase, Clyde Chase and William Chase; and a sister, Dorothy Chase.

The funeral was held Tuesday in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., with services by the Rev. Dr. Stuart Thomas Wilson, interim pastor of Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. Interment took place in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
