Cecelia E. Philbin of Austin, Texas, formerly of Dunmore, died Friday at Dunmore Health Care Center.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late John J. and Patricia Judge Philbin, she was a 1979 graduate of Scranton Preparatory School. She received a BS in chemistry from Marywood University, a MS in chemistry from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Oregon. She completed post-doctorate studies at the University of Pittsburgh. Before her illness, she was a senior engineer for the Freescale Corp. She was the author of numerous articles and publications in the her field of inorganic chemistry.
Surviving are a brother, John J. Philbin, Emmaus; a nephew, John Philbin; a niece, Carly Philbin; and several cousins.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Albert P. O'Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, 322 Chestnut St., Dunmore. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
