Charles J. Smith, 66, of Chemung, New York, formerly of Jermyn, Pa., and Peckville, Pa., passed away at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., following a short illness.
Born in Peckville, Pa., son of Rose Smith, Chemung, New York, and the late Charles Smith Sr., Peckville, he attended Blakely High School and was an honorably discharged Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in the Philippines where he met his wife. An HVAC contractor, he was privately employed and apprenticed with his father, and a short time with Mid-Valley Plumbing.
Charles enjoyed going fishing, rifle hunting, playing cards and visiting casinos.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Lourdes (Ludy); a stepdaughter, Yolanda Smith Vargas and her husband, William, Peckville, Pa.; a stepson, Alberto Smith and his wife, Patricia Gavinsky Smith, Mountaintop, Pa.; two sisters, Cindy Savani, Chemung, N.Y.; and Jeanine Wererich, Angelica, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Thomas and Eryka Vargas, Peckville; and Kaitlyn Smith, Mountaintop, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Smith Sr.; and a sister, Linda Smith Baldelli.
