Chester M. Grzebin Sr., 90, a lifelong resident of Mount Cobb, died Friday at home. His wife of 64 years is the former Phyllis Mitchell.
Born in Taylor, son of the late George and Felicia Sudol Grzebin, he attended Lake Consolidated High School. During his last years at high school, Chester joined the Navy, where he proudly served during World War II
in the Pacific theater and received the Good Conduct, Asiatic and World War II medals. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor after the bombing on harbor patrol. After his service, he returned to Mount Cobb and drove a truck for G.F. Edwards, Elmhurst. He attended Grace Bible Church, Dunmore.
Chester loved his family and spending time with them. He enjoyed camping and was a fan of the New York Yankees. For 28 years, he and his wife spent winters in Florida. They also made several trips to Hawaii and enjoyed cruises.
Also surviving are a daughter, Sharon Swartz and husband, James, Mount Cobb; a son, C. Michael Grzebin and wife, Cindy, Marathon, N.Y.; grandchildren, Krista Swartz; Garrett Swartz and wife, Kathleen; Lt. Jeffery Grzebin and wife, Kathryn; Stephen Grzebin and fiancée, Jen; Jessica Karamoutso and husband, Kyriakos; Jamie Gofgosky and fiancé, Troy; and Eric Gofgosky; great-grandchildren, Garrett and Gavin Swartz, Maximus and Grace Grzebin; a sister, Theresa Ofcharsky, Mount Cobb; brothers, Peter Grzebin, Florida; and Stanley Grzebin, Dickson City; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Zawick; a brother, Edward; and an infant brother, Joseph.
The funeral will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 3 First St., Spring Brook Twp., with services by the Rev. Terry Ribble, pastor of Grace Bible Church. Interment with military honors to follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
