Clifford James Westerlund

Clifford James Westerlund, Sykesville, Md., died peacefully on July 4 after a long illness.

Born in Taylor on Aug. 26, 1949, son of the late John and Emma John Westerlund, Cliff was a loving father, grandfather, godfather, brother, uncle, cousin and a friend to many. He was a man who wore his heart on his sleeve for the world to see. He wasn't ashamed to cry when he was sad and he would give the shirt off his back to another in need. Cliff loved greatly and felt deeply and passed on those rare qualities to his children and grandchildren. He was a great fisherman and loved the water. He loved his work as a fireman and EMT. He was a self-taught artist and musician who enjoyed drawing and playing the guitar. He enjoyed riding his Harley, and he loved creating things and working with his hands. He was a collector and surrounded himself with things that had meaning and made him happy. He was a salt-of-the-earth kind of man's man and words cannot express how deeply his loss means to those that love him.

He is survived by his children, Mike Westerlund and fiancée, Valerie Sammis; and Kerry Westerlund; his siblings, Daniel Westerlund and Emma Westerlund-Battista; his grandchildren, Kaleb, Jakob, Gabriella, Emily and Evalyn; and his nieces and nephews, Emily, Angela, Danielle, Anthony, Vincent, Nick, Joey and Dylan; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was also preceded in death by brothers, John and Albert Westerlund.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects July 27 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with a blessing service at 3 by the Rev. James A. Wert. Interment and committal are scheduled for July 28 at 11 a.m. in Marcy Cemetery,
