Donald A. Richards

Donald A. Richards, 63, formerly of Jermyn and Bellefonte, died Thursday at the Carbondale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Peckville, son of the late Richard J. and Ruth Holland Richards, he was a graduate of Lakeland High School and Penn State University. Donny proudly served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Nittany Country Club, Mingoville, and helped coach the Special Olympics. Before his illness, he was employed in the Penn State Pattee Library and as a cab driver in State College.

Donny was an avid golfer, who enjoyed numerous other sports. He was a lifelong Dodgers and Penn State fan and a voracious reader, and enjoyed traveling. Positive and supportive to his friends, Donny's pleasant disposition brought joy to countless people.

His family would like to extend its gratitude to the wonderful staff of both the Carbondale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Traditional Hospice and Home Health for the comfort and care given to him in his final months.

Donny is survived by his sister, Linda and husband, Ray Crotti, Peckville; two nieces, Melissa Crotti, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Sarah Crotti, Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, James; aunts, an uncle and cousins.

A memorial service will be held May 3 at Nittany Country Club. Arrangements are by the Ryczak-Harrison Funeral Home Inc., 901 Lackawanna Ave., Mayfield.
