Dora Giovannini, 97, formerly of Exeter, died Wednesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Her husband, Joseph (Pete) Giovannini, died in 1989.
Born in Jessup on Oct. 25, 1915, daughter of the late Sebastiano and Guiseppina Vispi Nardelli, she was a graduate of Old Forge High School, class of 1934. She was a member of St. Barbara's Parish, Exeter.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt and will be greatly missed. She passed away surrounded by her family.
Surviving are her children, Flora Heapps, Port Washington, N.Y.; Frances Scatena and husband, Louis Ronald, Phoenix; attorney Joseph Giovannini Jr. and wife, Joanne, Kingston; and Diana Giovannini and husband, Ralph Scafuro, Yatesville; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rena Salerno, Jenkins Twp.; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by siblings, Tina Ferretti, Raymond Nardelli, Anna Abbott and Anthony Nardelli; and a son-in-law, William Heapps.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Mercy Center, Dallas; the nursing staff at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital; and Dr. James Bruno for the excellent and compassionate care they provided to Dora.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William St., Pittston, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. Barbara's Parish, Memorial Avenue, Exeter. Entombment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
