Dorothy Decker, 104, of Taylor, died Saturday at Commonwealth Hospice of NEPA. Her husband, Sylvester, died in 1963.
Born in Taylor, daughter of the late John S. and Bessie Jones Evans, Dorothy was the oldest member of United Baptist Church in Taylor, where she had been a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Women's Guild of the Congregational Church in Taylor. She was a graduate of Taylor High School and Bloomsburg University, class of 1929, and was the oldest member of the Bloomsburg alumni. Also, she was one of the charter members of Taylor Senior Citizens Club. During her teaching career, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Milwaukee, was a teacher and librarian for the Taylor School District and was a teacher and principal at St. Stanislaus PNC School.
Surviving are a daughter, Donna Rindich and husband, Steve, Taylor; a son, Jack Decker and wife, Caryl, Clarks Summit; two grandsons, Jody Decker and Kris Rindich; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Clark and Elizabeth Fallon.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Jacob Davis Funeral Home, 422 S. Main St., Taylor, with services by the Rev. Paul Fields, pastor of United Baptist Church, Taylor. Interment will be at the Memorial Cemetery, South Main Street, Taylor.
