Dorothy Lenore Harris Edmondson, R.N., of West Scranton, died Friday afternoon in the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania. She and her husband, Robert Edmondson Jr., who was her high school sweetheart, celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on April 4.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Orland D. and Ellen Burrows Harris, she was educated in Scranton schools and was a graduate of West Scranton High School class of 1955. She attended Mansfield University and received her R.N. degree from Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing in 1958. Following her graduation, she was employed as a staff nurse at Hahnemann Hospital currently known as Geisinger CMC. Prior to her retirement, she did private duty nursing for over 35 years. She was a member of Embury United Methodist Church of West Scranton and its Choir and also its Tri-M Class.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, nana, cousin, friend and caregiver. She enjoyed gardening, singing, travelling, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Dorothy's family would like to personally thank Dr. Frank Milani, M.D. for his loving care and support not only to Dorothy, but also to her family. A special thanks to the staff at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa., especially Dorothy's nurses and aides on the second floor, where she spent the last year and seven months as a resident. Their love, kindness and respect that she received throughout her time there is so much appreciated.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sherry Forgione and husband, Paul, Scranton; and Robin Edmondson, Scranton; one son, Glenn and wife, Ellen, Scranton; six grandchildren, P.J Forgione; Alexandra Forgione and fiancé, Jonathan Bernotsky; Ethan and Rhys Bevan, Eric and Jacob Edmondson; three cousins who were raised with Dorothy as she considered them to be her brothers, Edwin G. Harris, John W. Harris Smith and the late Walter Harris Smith; nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be conducted Wednesday from the Carl J. Savino Funeral Home, 157 S. Main Ave., West Scranton, with services in the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. by the Rev. Linda Eckersley, pastor of the Embury United Methodist Church. Interment will be Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
