Dorothy Mae Leonard, 58, of Scranton, died Friday at the Linwood Nursing Home, Scranton, after a courageous battle with cancer. She and the love of her life, Michael Lawless, celebrated their 23rd anniversary in January.
Born in Factoryville, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Helen Gardner Leonard. Dorothy was educated in the Abington Heights school system and was of Methodist faith. Prior to retirement due to illness, she was employed as a cook at LaTrattoria restaurant in Scranton.
Dorothy was an inspiration to everyone she came in contact with. A warm, kind, fun-loving and great personality who adored her Michael, she was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend.
Also surviving are a daughter, Annessa; sons, Josh and Ivan; a sister, Kay Jacoby; two stepchildren, Kelly and Michael; two grandchildren; and six nieces.
She was also preceded in death by two granddaughters; and a brother, Donald.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Donahue Funeral Home, 303 S. Main Ave., Scranton, by the Rev. Thomas Major.
The family will greet friends Thursday from 4 until time of service. In keeping with her wishes, cremation will follow with interment at the convenience of the family at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
