Edward T. Planthaber

Edward T. Planthaber, of Jefferson Twp., passed away January 3, 2014, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center after an illness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, the former Patricia King.

He was born in the Bronx, New York, to the late August and Florence Dunn Planthaber on December 14, 1937. After moving from New York to Lake Ariel, Edward had a 22-year career in the United States Army, earning the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a squad leader in Vietnam, a tank commander and finished his career as a drill instructor at Fort Knox, KY. He was a member of the VFW Post 5207 and the 5th Infantry Regiment Association "Bobcats."

Also surviving are daughters, Kim Smith and her husband, Rick, of Leeton, MO; Karen Grizzanti, of Chester Springs, PA; Tammy Hakenson and her husband, Kurt, of Walkersville, MD; and Crystal Planthaber, of Lake Ariel; sons Brian and his wife, Paula, of Chester Springs, PA; and Eric and his wife, Holly, of Moscow, PA; a sister, Annabelle Johannes, of Waymart; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Swingle.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Road, Lake Ariel, PA 18436.

Interment will take place in the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, Pa.
