On Wednesday, March 20, 2013, Eleanor Amelia Erat Caterson peacefully joined her beloved husband, Don Caterson.
Born in Scranton, Pa., she spent her childhood in Brooklyn, Pa., and her adult years in Montrose, Pa.
Ever ambitious, Eleanor was a partner in Caterson's Dairy, was proprietor of the Shop on the Corner and the Best Cellar, and was a director of the American Cancer Society. She campaigned tirelessly for her husband's eight terms of re-election as Prothonotary and Clerk of Courts. At the First Presbyterian Church she was an Elder and a Deaconess and at 80 years old she went on a Mission to Ghana, Africa, the locals called her "The White God."
Besides her husband of 50 years, Eleanor was predeceased by her parents O'Tillie (Loch) and Adolph Erat; her sister and brothers, Bertha (Erat) and John Kropa; Florence and Dolph Erat; Marian and Bill Terry; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Lee and Ken Caterson.
Surviving are several cousins, nieces and nephews, Sue, Gary, Bob, Sue, Ann, Blair, Julie, Ron, Bonnie, Donna, Tom, Karen, John, Rick, John, Billy and Calvin. Eleanor also leaves behind with holes in their hearts and loving happy memories in their souls, mom to seven children, Don, Mark, Lisa, Chris, Patti Jo, Rick and Janet; Nana to 14 grandchildren, Shauna, Chris, Aaron, Jolyne, Jared, Catherine, Ken, Brenda, Terry, Eric, Bonny, Sara, Seth and Emily; and three great-granddaughters, Roen, Reese and Brielle.
A better mother, father or friend would be impossible to imagine — rest in Dad's strong arms dear sweet Mom.
On Saturday, March 23rd, at the First Presbyterian Church Eleanor's children would love to greet you between 2 and 3:30 p.m. for visitation and the memorial service will be held at 3:30.
Memorial gifts are welcomed by the family to the benefit of the First Presbyterian Church, 367 Church St., Montrose, PA 18801.
Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Montrose, Pa., has been entrusted with the arrangements.
