Elma E. Posdon, 87, of Waymart, died Thursday at Celtic Hospice in Dunmore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Posdon Sr., on Nov. 15, 2000. The couple married on Oct. 13, 1945.
Born May 31, 1926, in Honesdale, daughter of the late Jack and Liddie Miller Schariest, Elma worked at Husko Shoe Factory in Honesdale and Waymart Knitting. During that time, she continued helping her husband on the family farm. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.
A loving mother and grandmother, she enjoyed her time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed needlepoint, music, art, gardening, reading and puzzles.
Also surviving are her sons, William J. Posdon, and wife, Sonja, Taylor; and Joseph W. Posdon and wife, Rose, Honesdale; her daughter, Maria Miller, and husband, Donald, Waymart; her brother, John Schariest, Honesdale; grandchildren James Gatto, William Jr., Mark and Joseph III Posdon, and Patrick and Joshua Miller; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Albert Schariest.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
