Emmett Davis

Emmett Davis of South Abington Twp., passed away at home on Feb. 6, 2013, with his loving wife and caregiver, Carol (McRae) at his side. He was 89 nine years old and had fought a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer for 23 years. He and Carol had been married for 35 years.

Born in Scranton, son of late Emmett Davis and Cora Reed Davis, he was a graduate of Technical High School, class of 1942.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the Merchant Marine in 1944 being deployed in the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas around Italy.

Emmett spent 10 years working in the mines in the Wanamee area before finding his true calling as a stockbroker. He spent 52 years in the business and retired from Janney Montgomery Scott Inc., at the age of 84 in 2007.

He loved the outdoors and spent many happy hours hiking with his wife and family members. He enjoyed golf immensely and was a member of Glen Oak Country Club for 23 years. He had a beautiful singing voice, was a natural comedian and performed with many local community musical and theatre groups. He also enjoyed a friendly game of poker and playing Blackjack whenever he was in the vicinity of a casino. Emmett loved his family, friends, pets and life in general and often said he'd like to buy a ticket and go around again.

Emmett's family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Darlene Dunay and staff for their tender loving care. Also their heartfelt thanks to the doctors who assisted Emmett in his long journey with friendship and compassion. They include Drs. Jeffrey Weiss, Harmar Brereton, Christian Adonizio, Donald Preate Jr., Carl Barsigian, Han, Samir Pancholy, Randall Peairs and Jeffrey Muir. Also many thanks to the wonderful hospice team who cared so lovingly and respectfully for him at the end of his journey, Jeri, JJ and Sister Joanne.

Also surviving are two daughters, Pamela Bourbeau and husband, Jack; and Nancy Flemming and husband, Jeff, both of Dalton; son, Emmett Davis Jr., S. Abington Twp.; five stepdaughters, Sheila Padilla and husband, Emilio, Aston, Pa.; Heather and husband, Adrian Dybwad, Draper, Utah; Holly Stoddard, Portland, Ore.; Carol Costa, Clearfield, Utah; and Gail Case, San Diego, Calif.; one stepson, Jason Stoddard and wife, Sari, Sonoma, Calif.; four grandchildren, Jason McCawley and wife, Linda, Cochranville, Pa.; Jeffrey Fleming and wife, Andrea, Harveys Lake; Jenny Fleming, Chicago, Ill.; and Kate Fleming, Dalton, Pa.; three step-grand-daughters, Emiliana, Marifer and Yamel Padilla, Aston, Pa.; two great-grandsons, Max and Curtis McCawley, Cochranville, Pa.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 3, at 2 p.m. at the Jacob Davis Funeral Home, 422 S. Main St., Taylor, with services by the Rev. Charles Consagra of First Christian Church, Scranton, Pa.

Friends may call from noon until the time of service.
