Eric A. Cole, 43, of Peckville, died Monday at Jeane's Temple Hospital, Philadelphia, after a valiant eight-year battle with leukemia. His wife of 13 years is Laura T. Collarini Cole.
Born in Honesdale on Aug. 27, 1968, son of Leanna Diehl Young of Honesdale and Alan Cole of Georgia, he was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. He graduated from Western Wayne High School, class of 1987, enlisted in the Army
, and served in Frankfurt, Germany. He graduated from Penn State University
, where he earned a bachelor's degree, and formerly worked for Cedar Crest in Allentown as an MRI technician.
He was active in Valley Youth Soccer, where he was a coach for many years, and was vice president and a coach for Valley View Babe Ruth baseball.
He was a loving husband and father who adored his children and enjoyed coaching and traveling with his family. He was an inspiration to everyone who met him.
The family would like to thank Dr. Martin Hyzinski and the staff of Regional Hospital of Scranton; Dr. Mary Ellen Martin, the staff at Temple University bone marrow unit, and all the friends and family who lent love and support over the last eight years.
Also surviving are three sons Ben, Sam and Matt, all at home; brothers and sisters, Candace Carney and husband, Thomas, Waymart; Andy, Fred, Charlene, Dawn and Jeff all of Dade City, Fla.; Arlena Harbourne, Brownsville, Texas; Rusty Young, El Paso, Texas; and Gary Young Jr., Honesdale; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rick and Ann Marie Collarini; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday, 9 a.m., from the Harrison Funeral Home, 374 N. Main St., Archbald, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Willow Street, Peckville, to be celebrated by Monsignor Peter Madus, pastor. Cremation, Maple Hill at Salem Crematory, Archbald.
Friends may call Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In leiu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Cole Children Education Fund, Penn Securtiy Bank, Main Street, Peckville.
