Ervin Black, 84, of Eynon, died Wednesday in Regional Hospital of Scranton. His wife, the former Rita Hebert, preceded him in death.
Born in Archbald, son of the late Harold and Claire Kennedy Black, he served in the Navy. He was a master baker with International Multi Food Inc., Minnesota, where he opened Mr. Donut shops all over the country.
He was a well-loved father, grandfather and "Papa Bear." His cakes, pies, cookies and cooking will be missed by all. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by two daughters, Janice Pitoniak and husband, Richard, Jessup; and Sandy Depoti and husband, Girard, Mayfield; three sons, Glen and wife, Jean Ann, Mayfield; John, Pittsburgh; and Gary and wife, Sue, Jermyn; four sisters, Florence Shaffer and husband, Ray, Allentown; Leona Griffiths, Jermyn; and Lois Fuga and husband, Joe, Jermyn; and Kim Risboskin and fiancé, Mike Korshanak, Duryea; three brothers, Gene, Jermyn; George and wife, MaryAnn, Carbondale; and Vaughn and wife, Beverly, Jermyn; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and John; and an infant sister, Shirley.
The family would like to thank Dr. David Fitzpatrick and the nursing staff at Regional Hospital and Dr. Brundage and his staff.
Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Battenberg Funeral Home, 363 Washington Ave., Jermyn, with services at 7:30 by the Rev. Arthur Davis, pastor, Asbury Methodist Church. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery.
