Esther A. Govan, 95, Scranton, died Thursday evening at Green Ridge Care Center. She was the widow of Chief Warrant Officer Earl W. Govan, who died in 1991.
She was the daughter of the late James F. and Alice Quinan Meehan. A graduate of Olyphant High School, she was employed at the Bureau of the Census Industry Division and a retired secretary for the United States government. She was a resident of Washington, D.C., for 50 years, who returned to Scranton eight years ago. She was a member of St. Paul's Church, Scranton.
She is survived by her caregiver and nephew, James J. Dixon, Scranton; nieces, Mary Pannunzio, Palmer Twp.; Kathleen Broadhurst, Glenolden; and Shelia Samaratano, Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; grand- and great-grandnieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Pernige, Alice Caputo and Clare Dixon; two brothers, Thomas and John Meehan; nephews, Thomas and John Dixon; Thomas and John Caputo; and nieces, Patricia Caputo and Barbara Farace.
The funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Pauls Church. Interment, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
Viewing will be Friday from 9 to 10, church.
