Florence Calogero Ciuferri

Florence Calogero Ciuferri, 90, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, died Sunday in Mountain View Care Center following an illness. Her beloved husband is Alfio Ciuferri. The couple was united in marriage on Oct. 4, 1946.

Born in Old Forge, daughter of the late Andrew and Rose Madera Calogero, she was a 1940 graduate of Old Forge High School. Before retirement, Florence was employed as a presser for the Old Forge Dress Factory. She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Church (Prince of Peace Parish) in Old Forge and held membership in the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.

She was a very compassionate, generous and caring person. She was an exceptional cook and baker. Florence loved music and dance.

Her family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the staff at Mountain View Care Center for its expression of care and dignity during Florence's stay.

Also surviving are a son, Richard Ciuferri and wife, Marie; two grandchildren, Dr. Maria Ciuferri Wansacz and husband, Jim; and Gina Ciuferri Dominick and husband, Joseph; three great-grandchildren, Nadia and Jace Wansacz; and Joseph Dominick; all of Old Forge; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Louis Ciuferri, on Jan. 22, 2012; and three brothers, Frank, Michael and James Calogero.

The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the Victor M. Ferri Funeral Home, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, West Grace and Lawrence streets, Old Forge, to be celebrated by the Rev. Joseph F. Cipriano, pastor emeritus. Interment services will follow in Marcy Cemetery, Duryea.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the , 57 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
